What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the most ancient and effective healing arts in the world. For several thousand years acupuncture has been used to treat a wide variety of symptoms, conditions, injuries, and diseases. To this day, it remains one of the most continuously practiced medical techniques in all of human history. In many ways, it remains unique in its focus on whole-body health and the causes of medical problems, instead of concentrating only on the outward symptoms of the conditions as so many other treatment types tend to do.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile needles to stimulate various points on the body. Those points lie on major energy channels called meridians, which cross the entire body and connect to the internal organs as well.
According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, many of the main causes of illnesses or other medical issues can be traced to the irregular flow of blood and Qi (the body’s vital energy) in various parts of the body. This can be due to stress, trauma, and diet, as well as environmental and biological factors. Acupuncture works by stimulating points on the meridians in order to help the body to correct the flow of blood and Qi from one area to another, bringing the system back into balance and strengthening the natural healing processes.
What does acupuncture treat?
In modern practice, acupuncture can help provide effective, natural treatment for acute problems or chronic diseases due to emotional or physical irregularities in the body. It can also be used as a general preventative treatment to help keep the body and mind healthy. By restoring the proper flow of energy through all of your body parts and organs, acupuncture can strengthen your body’s immune system, relax your mind and increase your ability to heal yourself. The specific effects can differ depending on the individual and on the condition being treated, but acupuncture is exceptionally beneficial for your overall physiological and emotional well-being.
